Andrea & Jason’s St. Mary’s Chapel Charlotte wedding was definitely one for the books! St. Mary’s Chapel in Charlotte is this adorable little historic church just outside of uptown. I pass by it nearly every time I drive anywhere in Charlotte and I have been dying to shoot a wedding there. I finally got the chance to with Andrea & Jason’s wedding! I knew that it was going to be a fantastic day when I arrived at the Ritz Carlton where Andrea was getting ready and she pulled out these AMAZING Jimmy Choo shoes! I am all for bride’s that splurge on their wedding shoes. Haha! The day ended with a gorgeous dinner at Dressler’s with a beautiful view of the sunset over the city skyline.
When I first met Andrea & Jason, they were telling me that their wedding would be very non-traditional with no dancing, bouquet toss, etc. so I was expecting mostly mingling and enjoying the food during the reception. If you’ve ever been to the Metropolitan on a summer night, you know that there is usually some type of live music at sunset. At some point during the evening, one of the guests came up to the groom and told him that his new bride would like to dance with him. Jason thought for a second and just said, “okay”. So the two of them walked over to the stage where the band was playing for all the restaurant patrons and asked if they would mind playing them a song. The band, of course, was happy to do so and began playing Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be” as the bride and groom danced under the stars. About halfway through the song, their family and friends (and even some of the couples at the restaurants!) grabbed their loved ones and joined them on the dance floor.
Even thinking about it now makes me teary-eyed! It was one of the sweetest, most genuine moments I’ve ever experienced and I am so glad I was there to capture it!
