As a Charlotte Photographer, I’m often asked by clients if they can include their fur babies. The answer is a resounding yes! I LOVE incorporating your four legged friends into your engagement and family sessions. After all, they are part of the family, too. They help tell the story of who you are right now in the moment we’re capturing because if you’re anything like me, your life just wouldn’t be the same without them.
There are definitely some special considerations we must make in order to successfully include your pets in your photo session. First, be mindful of the location. Busy streets and lots of people can create an environment where your pet may become distracted or even stressed. Try to pick somewhere with a relaxed, quiet atmosphere. You most likely will spend some time determining your session clothing so don’t forget Fido. It’s best to avoid loud colors or crazy patterns on your collars and leashes. A leash to keep your pup with you is also imperative for everyone’s safety.
Here are a few things to schedule for the day of your session as well. If at all possible, plan to have a friend or family member who is not participating in the photo shoot come along to help keep your pet company when you’re getting shots without them in it. Bring some treats and a favorite toy with you so we can keep your pet motivated and happy. Be sure to arrive to your session early so you can take your dog for a good, long walk. It will get some of their wiggles out and make them much calmer. A calm pet is a photogenic pet! I genuinely hope these tips encourage you to successfully include your favorite furry friend during your next photography session.
