As a Charlotte family photographer, I have seen a lot of beautiful nurseries, some of which I was super jealous! Even before I was pregnant, I was so excited to decorate a nursery of our own. I had a lot of different ideas, but at the end of the day we decided on a modern safari theme in honor of our African honeymoon (which by the way is one of our favorite places in the world).
I knew that I wanted it to be more neutral than gender specific, so the color palette I chose is very natural. Navy is a great pop of color for either a boy or a girl! I didn’t want the walls to be pure white, so I chose to use Timid White by Benjamin Moore. I absolutely love the way it looks against the white trim! Originally I planned to stencil one wall with a crazy cool pattern, but time definitely got the better of me. Maybe down the road!
The first piece of furniture I purchased was the crib. Since the room is not very large, I didn’t want a bulky piece of furniture that would make the room even smaller. I chose this crib by DwellStudio because of its modern/minimalist design and it really worked out perfectly in the space. For our anniversary, Tyler and I went to a local baby store, Shower Me With Love, to look for some things for the nursery. If you have never been to this store, it’s a must! They have the cutest clothes and some really great furniture. We got both the dresser and the rocking chair from here and I am completely obsessed with them both! The last piece of furniture, the end table, came from Hayneedle. I just love the fact that it plays so well off both the crib and the dresser.
Once I had the furniture, I could play around with some accent pieces, like the rug and window treatments, both of which came from West Elm. I also got the wood and brass curtain rods from West Elm, and I will say that I will never buy or attempt to install cheap curtain rods again. Haha. The leather pouf from Hayneedle was the final touch to really bring everything together.
I am still working on some of the wall decor in the room (I will be putting up some photos from the hospital as well as some of our own photos from Africa!) but am completely in love with the few things we have in there so far, like the adorable baby safari animal prints (Etsy) and the giraffe towel hook (World Market). FYI…that super cool wood sign at the entrance? I made it at Ander’s Ruff Workshop in Pineville (their new Charlotte location is opening soon!)!
I’m not gonna lie, once everything came together, I just sat in the room and stared at it! I am SO happy with how it turned out and can’t wait for my baby girl to really enjoy it!
What do you think?!
Had to throw in a couple of Nora’s protectors! Haha
