A Daniel Stowe Wedding is something that many people only dream of. Lindsay and Robby could not have been more excited to get married in the gardens and because of their unique situation, they were able to make that dream come true. When I was first contacted by Make a Wish Foundation, I was really excited to donate my time and talents to such a wonderful organization. What I didn’t know is just how much Lindsay and Robby would touch my life forever and become some of my favorite people. They are both the kind of people that would do anything for anyone and have devoted their careers to it. On top of that, Lindsay has taken Robby’s twin boys as her own and boy do they look up to her. There have been times during weddings that I get teary eyed, but watching her dance with those two boys during the reception had me in tears. Her taking these boys on as her own is even more special because Robby has been living with end stage renal disease. If you’d like to know a little more about them, keep reading on for their love story!
(From the bride): I was raised by my grandmother after my mother was killed from her injuries in a car accident before I was 1 year old. My grandmother was the first female in the volunteer fire department where we lived. I grew up in the fire department running emergency calls and learning about healthcare. Robby was working with Union EMS and we would see each other at the Fire station. Over the years, we became good friends. A few years passed and Robby went to work for MedCenter Air and teaching the Paramedic program. I decided that in 2011 I would go for my Paramedic license before getting a nursing degree. This is where Robby and I would meet again. During the class Robby and I remained friends but nothing more. It wasn’t until after I had graduated the program and was working night shift for Mecklenburg EMS when we started talking. Both of us had recently came out of long term relationships and were not ready to start another one however within a couple of months we became inseparable. Robby has become my biggest fan, my cheerleader, my protecter, my best friend, and now my husband.
(From the bride): Robby was teaching parts of a Critical Care Paramedic program up in the NC Mountains. We decided to make a weekend trip out of his two day class. Robby, the boys, and I packed up our camper and found a beautiful campground looking over the mountains for the weekend. Robby said he had a surprise for me and wanted to take us somewhere. Robby took the boys and myself to the Asheville Botanical Gardens. I am a sucker for taking pictures of flowers and any chance we got to visit botanical gardens, we do, so honestly I did not think anything other than it being a sweet gesture. So I was taking pictures of the flowers and Robby said he and the boys were going to walk ahead. He said to take all the pictures I wanted and meet them up the path. I finished my pictures and rounded the corner in the path and there they were. Robby knelt down between the boys holding the ring. The boys were each holding a sign reading “will you” and “marry us”. Of course I’m crying at this point and saying yes, and I dropped my camera never capturing this amazing moment.
I could not be more happy that these two have found each other and that I was able to gift them with photos that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. It can be easy to get caught up in the business of it, but it’s important to remember to give back and use your talents to make others smile. I sincerely hope that these photos will make them smile and remember such a special time during some of their darker days.
