Turning 100 is a REALLY big deal. Seriously. He was born in 1916.
1916 to 2016.
Think about how much has changed in that period of time. The world has transformed time and time again right before his eyes. It’s amazing that Grandpa is still around, but also that he is so lively! It’s truly a a miracle, which deserves a huge family party! I’m so glad that I not only got the chance to travel out to the Los Angeles area to spend time with my whole family, but also that I got to capture and celebrate such a rare occasion. After all, how many people do we know in our day to day lives who have lived an entire century? Aside from sharing my photos, I wanted to share one of my grandfather’s favorite stories that I was told during my time in California that is both hilarious and reminds you just how long 100 years really is!
In the early 20th Century, film was slowly becoming more and more popular. The first time my grandfather went to the movies, he was with his cousin and neither of them had ever seen a movie before. It was a totally foreign concept. At some point during the film (a Western, I assume), the “bad guy” was about to shoot the “good guy” as he turned around and walked away. My grandpa’s cousin, knowing this was the cowardly thing to do, stood up in the theater, grabbed his holstered pistol, shot at the screen and screamed, “Not in the back!” I kid you not. Mind you, this is when it was normal to carry a gun around wherever you went. Ha!
Happy Birthday, Grandpa! Here’s to many more happy, healthy years with family and loved ones. I love you!
And here are a few from some of our other escapades during my trip!
